Of all of the habits I have ever developed, the one I learned to hated the most was smoking. It smelled nasty, but what’s worse, it was like dragging around a ball and chain.
I was never comfortable. All I could think about was my next smoke. I always had to make sure I left the house with them and that I always had a lighter. Then there was buying them. Always make sure you had them.
It was awful. If you’ve never smoked, you wouldn’t understand, if you smoke, or if you used to smoke, you understand all too well.
I’m not even sure what made me want to quit. Maybe it was my granddaughters. I didn’t want them around that horrible smell. Maybe it was a change in my self esteem. I really don’t know. What I do know is that if any of you are suffering some kind of addiction, regardless of what it is, you have my deepest sympathies. Believe me, I understand. Regardless of your addiction, you can break it if you really want to.
I’ve tried everything too. Nothing seemed to work. I’ve quit plenty of times, and a lot of different ways, but I always went back to it. I finally learned, that like a lot of other things in my life, I needed a change in attitude.
When I finally decided to quit, I looked at the things that kept me smoking. It’s usually a combination of three things: habit, addiction, thinking. F0r me it was addiction and thinking.
To help me with the addiction, I used the patch for the first week. That helped me to wean off the tobacco. (You can actually go cold turkey in 4 days. I know because I’ve done it.)
As for the mental part of it, I tried something I’ve never done before: self hypnosis, and boy did it work like gangbusters. It only took about a week, and I never wanted to smoke again.
It’s been about six weeks now, and I still don’t want to smoke. That’s a huge change for me because I always wanted to go back to it before. Now, I rarely think about it, and I’m only thinking about it now because I wanted to tell you about my experience.
I can’t promise this will work for you unless you really want to quit. I know it works because it worked for me. For those of you who want to stop smoking, this is one of the easiest things I have ever done, and I recommend you try it. It fun, easy, and it’s cheap.
