Does IT Feel As Good As Your First Time?

I was reading this post over on one of the writing blogs (if you’re a writer, then I would highly recommend you read this post. Even if you’re not, it may just be the shot in the arm you need to get your passion back.)

I realized that I had somewhat lost my passion for writing. I do it so much that sometimes I just take the whole exercise for granted, and I know it shows. I know when I’ve written something that’s really good, and when I haven’t.

Maybe you feel that way in some area of your life. Have you lost your passion? Do you remember what it was like when you first accepted Christ? I do. I don’t think I got it the first time. I accepted Christ again as an adult in my 30s. That’s when I think I really got it and decided to truly follow the path.

What about your first child? Your first job? What excites you?

Before we accepted Christ, we were what they refer to in the church as “poor old sinners.” Once we accept Christ, we are to become new creatures. We’re not the same anymore. We are something new.

Have you become a new creature in Christ?

Now I’ll be the first to admit: I don’t feel excited or passionate about life every day. I really don’t think anyone does. If you’re never excited about life though, then there is something wrong.

If you’re not feeling passionate about life, then there are some things you can do:

1. Reevaluate your life. Are you in some type of situation you hate? Then it’s time to make a decision here: to change your perception or change your situation. Sometimes when we think we need to change the situation, we really don’t. The common denominator in our lives is us. If you change the situation without changing yourself, then you really haven’t changed anything at all.

2. Take some time off. Sometimes we just need to do something we really want to do instead of something we think we have to do. What do you really like to do? I love to read. When I need a deep recharge of my batteries, I’ll read a good book from start to finish. It takes me a few hours, but afterward, I feel a whole lot better.

3. Relax. One of the best ways I have found to make myself feel better is to do meditation. Meditation can help you with your focus. Sometimes a nap will do the same thing. If I’m feeling really overwhelmed by all of the things I need to do, then I take a nap. I know I feel more refreshed afterward, and you will too.

4. Pray and read your Bible. Maybe you have a need today that seems so pressing you don’t think you can deal with it. God understands. He’s there for you. Read your Bible and pray about it. Ask God for peace in your situation. God is a God of now. There’s no past and no present for Him because He exists outside of time. Most importantly remember that God is always there for you.

You are not alone.

Whatever your passion is, it’s not that hard to bring it back. Pray, believe, do something you enjoy. Life isn’t meant to be all work.

Verse of the Day

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. (Ephesians 4:1-3, ESV)
