It’s a Girl!

My youngest daughter finally had her baby yesterday. This is her second child, and my fourth grandchild. My new granddaughter is named Sophia Marie, and let me tell you, I am ecstatic.

For those of you who have been with me for awhile, you know that back in 2005 two of my daughters each lost a child. It was a very dark period in their lives, my life, and the life of our family. It was something I thought I would never get over. It affected my life for a long time.

I found out last night that it still affects my life somewhat, and it’s certainly something I need to deal with. I went to the hospital last night because my daughter was having problems and wouldn’t stop bleeding. The doctors thought they might have to do surgery.

Because we have the best medical care in the world in this country, we take it for granted. Death in childbirth is a very real danger though, and many women throughout the world die from childbirth every year.

A lot of things went through my mind last night. I felt that very real fear once more that I might once again lose someone I loved, and believe me, I was terrified. I’m sure that all of you have had times in your life like that where you were gripped by fear for some reason.

I tell you this not to garner your sympathy, but simply because I want you to understand that we all have some kind of struggle in our lives that dominates, and this is one of mine. I need to deal with this fear.

Someone once told me that fear stands for Future Events Appearing Real. Most things we fear never happen. On rare occasions, those things we fear do happen, but most of the time they don’t.

Although it may seem impossible to you today, what I want to tell you is this: don’t let fear take root in your life. It can, and will, do some major damage, and it might just end up being damage you will never be able to undo.

When fear grips you, it means that there is something in your life you need to deal with. I say this because I am a prime example. I’m telling you now, let it go. Figure out what the prime cause is behind your fear and deal with the root. Rip it out of your life.

The great general Stonewall Jackson once told one of his generals to “Never take counsel of your fears.” Don’t take counsel from your fear. Don’t rely on your fear to make decisions. Don’t use emotion to make decisions. Times may seem tough right now, but what you have to do is assess the reality and make decisions based on the facts, not your opinions, and not your feelings.

When you do that, you will make better decisions. The decisions you make today will determine your future. If your life isn’t what it should be, then it’s time to start making better decisions.

Each of you is unique. Each of you has something valuable to give to the world, and chances are pretty likely that you have something inside of you that needs to be shared with the world. Whether you are in business for yourself, or you work in some type of profession where you help others, you have something important that God wants you to give, to share with the world.

As cheesy as it sounds, we are all connected, and we all have a right to be here. We have to stick together. Whatever your struggle today is, you can overcome it, but it all starts with what you believe. Your actions will follow your belief. Your actions will then determine how your life turns out.

Use what you know, use your unique gifts, and share those things with the world. When you do that, the world becomes a better place by you being here.

Unlike times past in my life, this time I started to pray. I prayed hard. It reminded me that often I need to pray harder, pray more. I had been praying about this situation for a long time because I’m not about to let Satan steal anything else from our family. The Bible says that he came here to steal, kill, and destroy, and if you’re a Christian, believe me, he will take whatever he can from you. Guard your hearts. Guard your minds. Pray for those around you and bless them.

The Bible tells us that we have many weapons to protect us.

10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Prayer is one of the most powerful tools we have. Many get frustrated in their prayer lives. Either they don’t believe in what they are praying for, or they don’t pray for what they are supposed to pray for. When those prayers don’t get answered, they get frustrated. When I learned to look to the Bible for what to pray for, I found that more and more of my prayers are being answered.

Pray today for your needs. If you need deliverance, pray for that. Pray for our leaders, our country, your family, your friends, and anyone else who may need your prayers. You never know how you may have the power to change someone’s life by your prayer.

I’m praying for all of you. I pray for God to bless all of you mightily and richly. Be strong in your faith. When times like these come, don’t be afraid to throw yourself on the mercy of God and let Him change you. That’s what I’m praying for today.

Fear and faith cannot occupy the same space. Let your fears be replaced by your faith. God will deliver you from your fears if you allow it.

Now, for the vital statistics on my granddaughter: 8 pounds 6 ounces, 21 3/4 inches, 14 inch head and chest. She is a big baby, but boy she sure is adorable, and I can’t wait to get my hands on her!

Have a great day today. I believe that the best is yet to be.
