Praying on Election Day

I will definitely be praying today. Not for one specific leader to win today or anything like that. In my opinion, this is one of the most disappointing elections we have ever had. Quite frankly, this is two of the most unqualified candidates we have ever had.

I will be praying today for America. I will be praying today for God to heal us, to heal America. Regardless of what liberals, or atheists, or anyone else says, the United States is a Christian nation. We were founded on the principle of religious tolerance. The Puritans came here because they wanted to evangelize the Indians, but more importantly, they wanted to be free to worship in the way they wanted to.

These were people who were steeped in the Bible. They read the Bible on a regular basis. They used the Bible to educate their children and teach them how to read. Although they were off the mark on the idea of predestination and election, these were people who were deeply into the Bible and reading the Bible.

It is a sad fact that although many in America today claim to be Christian, they really aren’t. Only 11 percent of those in America who claim to be Christian actually read their Bibles on a daily basis. I am one of those. That’s not to say that you have to read your Bible to be a Christian. You don’t. If you don’t though, you’re really short changing your life. Reading your Bible can also help you avoid many of the pitfalls in life that Christians who don’t read their Bibles fall into.

The reason I read my Bible is that it is an opportunity for God to talk to me. It is an opportunity for me to grow. It’s one of the reasons that I don’t believe Obama is any more a Christian than I am the Pope because everything he advocates, everything he is for goes against everything the Bible says. It’s why I don’t understand why any Christian would vote for him.

Too many people in this country, including Christians, don’t understand that part of being a Christian is doing the right thing. God will not bless things that are wrong, like illegal immigration. Like taking welfare, and medical care, and education when you aren’t entitled to it. Like taking other peoples’ money through redistribution of wealth. These are injustices, and for those who participate in this kind of stuff will be punished. You reap what you sow. That is both a Biblical principle, and it is also a principle in life.

If you want God to bless you, then you have to do what is right. All of the genuflecting, praying to the saints, and all of that other nonsense will never square you with God. In fact, it’s blasphemy.

The only way to get right with God is to accept Jesus Christ as your savior and repent. Yes, there will be those in heaven who accepted Christ but didn’t live the Christian life the way they were supposed to. Once you accept Christ as your savior, the judgement you face isn’t about whether you get into heaven or not; it’s about what your reward in heaven will be. I personally look forward to walking streets of gold; I do not, however, want to be the one who sweeps them. I think God offers a lot more than that in eternity for me.

There is no way to work your way into heaven; no purgatory. It all happens with that decision to accept Christ. It’s well past time that we stopped asking where God is with all of the tragedy in life. We are His hands, and we are here to do what is right, what is good. It’s time as Christians that we take a stand against evil. I will start by praying first. It’s well past time for all of us to get right with Christ.

Verse of the Day

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. (Ephesians 4:1-3, ESV)
