Right around the time of the 4th of July, I was thinking about this speech because nothing more correctly describes what the colonists went through to attain our freedom.

Of course, I know the price of freedom because one of those colonists who gave his life for us was my 5th great grandfather, Robert Jarrett IV.

The interesting thing about it was that he wasn’t some starry eyed kid either. He was 44 years old when he died, and he was in his 30s when he signed up for the Continental Army.

His brother, Devereaux also served, and I would imagine that it was against the will of their father since their father was a Tory and supported the king.

The price of freedom isn’t free. My family has paid it. We have a tradition for military service that dates all the way back to the revolution. It also explains why I, as a woman, would feel so strongly to serve. It’s just in my blood.

As we celebrate Christmas this year, and the birth of the true savior, and messiah, Jesus, let us be grateful for what we have. As Americans, we have so much. We have it better than most of the rest of the world.

That’s not meant to be condescending; it’s just a fact.

I wish all of you much prosperity and happiness in 2009, as well as a Merry Christmas.

We do have so much to be grateful for.

Verse of the Day

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. (Ephesians 4:1-3, ESV)
