What Is Your Need Today?

I was listening to talk radio the other night. (I’m here in North Carolina visiting one of my daughters and her husband while helping them move into their new house.)
A caller came on the radio. He was talking about all of the children he had seen in the school system who were doing without the most essential needs like shots, food, and clothing (I guess he was a teacher.)
He seemed to think God would forgive all of those who voted for Obama even though Obama is a socialist. All they would have to tell God is that they had voted for Obama because they had to take care of their children.
There’s a problem with that. First of all, Paul told us that we needed to work. Paul didn’t just evangelize the Gentile world; he also worked as a tent maker by trade. He worked while he evangelized. Work is a part of our lives, and we are to work to meet our needs.
The other part of this is that we need to ask God to bless our work. We also need to ask God to meet our needs. Too many who claim to be Christian are depending on the wrong things today, and then they wonder why they don’t get what they want out of life, or God doesn’t meet their needs. As Christians, we are not to depend on others to meet our needs. We are to depend on God.
Depending on the government, depending on other people, depending on anything on this earth is really a mistake. No one is perfect. Nothing on the face of this earth is perfect because it has all been marred by sin.
If you’re miserable and unhappy today, if your needs aren’t being met, if your life isn’t what it should be as a Christian, don’t look to Obama or some other politician as your savior. Look to God. Everything is His. He is the one you can depend on. He is perfect. He owns everything. He is looking to Christians to be obedient.
Will He meet your needs immediately? That depends a lot on you. Your faith. Your belief. Your obedience. It also depends a lot on whether or not you are asking in God’s will.
Maybe someone has hurt you. You cannot pray for God to condemn that person. You pray for God to bless that person. You pray for God to bring justice in the situation. The thing I want to stress about God here is that He is a good God. He doesn’t cause harm to others. Yes, He does punish, but He punishes sin. God is not an arbitrary God. He created the universe based on rules. Many don’t want to follow the rules, and then they wonder why they suffer consequences. That’s the reason. They’re not following the rules of the universe, rules God created.
If your life isn’t everything is should be today, and if your needs aren’t being met today, all I can say is this: read your Bible. Understand the promises of God. Pray. Pray in the will of God. You can know what His will is through what the Bible says.
The Bible is there to help you. It is a love letter from God, and He wants you to know just how much He really loves you.
The Bible warns us not to put stock in what the world offers. God is our provider, our savior, our redeemer, our source. There is only one source we need to rely on, and it isn’t a politician.
Only Jesus can save, and only He can make your life everything it is meant to be.
