Christians, Racism, and What You Need to Know

I received a card in the mail yesterday from a former friend. I am refusing to acknowledge this person anymore in my life for one simple reason:

Racism how now become an excuse for why people aren’t successful. Her position is that whites are still to blame for the problems of blacks in American society, and blacks can’t get ahead because of it.

Frankly, I’m sick of it. I don’t know about you, but I’m too busy living my own life and trying to do the right thing to waste my time in trying to hold others back.

As Christians, we are to be colorblind. Not only that, we are personally responsible for our own actions. The Bible says,

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28Galatians 3:28
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Although racism does exist, it isn’t something that should be present in the church, and it isn’t something that we as Christians should be participating in. Unfortunately, churches like Jeremiah Wright’s have kept racism alive and well in the church, and we should all be ashamed of this. Instead of allowing Christians to harp on this though, it’s time we expelled people like Jeremiah Wright from the church.

Believers aren’t to sit in judgement of nonbelievers. That is the job of Jesus. He said so. However, that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be correction for fellow Christians.

15Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

16But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.

17And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. (Matthew 18:15-17Matthew 18:15-17
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. 16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. 17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

If Jeremiah Wright really is a Christian, then it’s time for him to be corrected.

It’s time for blacks in the church to stop embracing racism. This is idolatry.

Unfortunately, too many people in the church think that once we accept Christ, our lives are to be pain free. That’s not true. Jesus told us we would be persecuted for what we believe. We would be persecuted for living the Christian life.

Everyone struggles in life in one way or another, and Christians struggle. We’re not perfect. Jesus gave us the tools to succeed, and He gave us the blueprint to prosperity in every area of our lives. It’s called the Bible.

If you are struggling today in your life, turn to your Bible. Read your Bible. God has a message for you. A message of love, a message of hope, and Christ offers you the abundant life.

What makes Christianity so radical isn’t the idea that Jesus was a black Marxist rebel (Black Liberation Theology). No, what Jesus taught is love. We are to love God, love our neighbors, and love ourselves. We can only love God and others as much as we love ourselves.

If you are holding onto any kind of limiting beliefs, you are limiting the amount of love you can have for yourself. This limits the amount of love you have for God and others. The most important commandment Christ gave us was to love, and if you refuse to love, then you’re wasting your time as a Christian.

I’m not perfect. I don’t claim to be. Christians aren’t perfect, just forgiven. When you’re forgiven, you don’t have to carry around the past or that old sin anymore. It’s very liberating. It’s the path to freedom Christ offered.

If your life isn’t everything it should be today, I recommend going and looking in the mirror. Ultimately, you’ll find the answer there as to why your life isn’t what it should be.

The Courage of Governor Sarah Palin 9/4

Obama vs. Palin on value of babies

I saw a bumper sticker the other day, and it said something to the effect, “Pro choice and Catholic. Pick one”

I have to question anyone who claims to be a Christian and then claims to be pro choice. These people should be forced to take a class in biology. In the thousands of years of recorded history not once has a human baby ever been born anything else.

Children are a blessing from God, and if you read the story of Sarah (Isaac’s mother), and Hannah (Samuel’s mother), then you know the grief these women went through for being barren.

Although the Bible really doesn’t have a lot to say about abortion per se, there’s plenty there on how much God loves us. So much so that we are the only creatures in the universe that He made in his own image.

Christians often cite Psalms 139 as a defense against abortion. This is a Psalm written by King David. King David recognized that God knew who we were before we were born. Since God knows who we are before we are born, and we are made in His image, doesn’t this make us human?

The difference between Obama and Governor Palin are startling. Obama is against providing any type of care of babies who are aborted and live. He voted against giving care to these infants when he was a part of the Illinois State Legislature. He is in favor of partial birth abortion.

Obama’s Abortion Extremism

For those of you who don’t know what partial birth abortion is, let me explain. The baby is delivered feet first. The doctor takes an instrument and opens the skull of the baby and sucks out the brain. The baby is given no anesthesia and suffers a cruel death.

This is not a blob of tissue delivered into the birth canal. This is a fully formed human being, and if this isn’t murder, please explain to me what is. The hypocrisy of liberals is that they find murdering the unborn acceptable, they find euthanasia acceptable, but you question them on the death penalty, and it’s murder to them. It’s OK to execute the innocent, but it’s not OK to execute the guilty?

Palin on the other hand is a different brand. She doesn’t just say the words. She lives them. Her youngest child is a Downs Syndrome baby. Currently 90 percent of Downs Syndrome babies are killed in abortion clinics. Palin chose to have her child because she is pro life. She also chose not to question God’s will in this, and accepts this child as a blessing from God.

Palin’s oldest daughter is now five months pregnant. Palin and her family have embraced their daughter, and they are supporting her in her decision to have this baby. This doesn’t mean that the family is condoning her decision to have premarital sex. They are supporting her because they believe she is making the right decision not to penalize her child for what she did.

There are two parts to Christianity: First, we accept Christ as our Savior. The second part is to live according to what the Bible teaches us. Sarah Palin isn’t a perfect Christian. None of us are. She is, however, choosing to live her beliefs, and she is to be congratulated for that.

Verse of the Day

But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield. (Psalm 5:11-12, ESV)
