A Shameless Veneration of Heroes

One of the things I could never stomach about liberalism, and especially liberals who advocate socialism, is how they venerate mediocrity. In my opinion, there is nothing noble or worthwhile about being poor, or being average. It is never the poor or the average who become something, who succeed to their higher selves. It is the above average, those who strive for something more than just living life on autopilot.

Don’t believe me? Then read the Bible. It’s full of people who were exceptional. Job, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, King David, and King Solomon. Most of the heroes of the Bible thought they were ordinary, but that wasn’t the way God saw them. They weren’t poor either. Poor people just aren’t interesting, they’re not something to aspire to, and quite frankly, who wants to be one?

Yes, there are those who find themselves in unfortunate circumstances sometimes. It happens, but here in the United States, if you’re not successful, it’s because you’re not willing to make the effort. There is more opportunity for success, even now, than there is in the rest of the world.

So, what are you waiting for? Marx is wrong. Now go for it.

Verse of the Day

At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:1-4, ESV)
